Government and Partners update PARPA II
The Government and members of the G20 group of civil society organizations are updating the Action Plan for Reduction of Poverty (PARPA II), developing a strategic matrix to cover the period 2010 - 2011. The G20 group has said that the updating process is necessary because this year should be the final year of implementation of the PARPA II, but there is an absence of a new instrument for poverty reduction which will cover the period of 2010 to 2011.

The implementation of the strategy against AIDS in the public sector could cost 290 million Meticais
The implementation of the strategy for the combat of AIDS in the public sector for the period 2009-2013 will cost a minimum of 48 million Meticais and a maximum of 290 million, according to projections presented in Maputo, last week, during the 31st Ordinary Session of the National Council for the Combat of AIDS (CNCS). A large part of the amount will be directed to the mitigation of the impact of the disease, with the aim that infected public sector workers will continue living active lives.

Guebuza goes to the Parliament
President Armando Guebuza goes to the Parliament to make his annual report about the state of the nation. He will also give his account of his performance as Head of State and the progress achieved by his Government over the last five years.

Mozambique and Denmark reinforce cooperation
The Secretary of State of Foreign Relations of Denmark visits today Mozambique with aim of formalizing new understanding on danish aid for Mozambique.
Denmark has been supporting seven sectors and has now said that it will also support four additional sectors, including public administration. It has also expressed interest in supporting the unionization of the public sector.

Renamo reorganizes for elections
Renamo in Sofala is reorganizing for the elections of 28th October. The information was given on Tuesday by the Provincial Delegate, Fernando Mbararano. He also said that in the province Renamo has selected 19 parliamentary candidates and 80 candidates for the Provincial Assembly.

Youth Parliament debate elections
According to the President of the Youth Parliament, Salomao Muchanga, the Youth Parliament will today debate through the theme “2009 Elections and Democracy in Mozambique”, in the city of Maputo. The main aim of the debate is to produce the youth electoral manifesto, which will include an appeal for the revitalization of politics and improvements in the credibility of the electoral process.

Mozambique launches “Dzowo” computer brand
Mozambique is preparing to launch this month the “Dzowo” laptop computer brand. The name is an homage to Eduardo Mondlane. The computers will be produced by the South African company “Sahara”. The computers will cost 10,000 Meticais (€370). It is expected that 50 computers will be produced per day.

Germany supports microfinance
The Bank of Mozambique signed on friday co-financing contracts with 6 microfinance institutions, with a total value of 11 million Meticais. The banks which will receive financing are Banco Central de Investimento (BCI), Banco Internacional de Moçambique (BIM), Fundo de Desenvolvimento da Mulher, Hluvuku, Banco Procredit and the Cooperativa de Credito e Poupança Tchuma

The Gondola district prison in the province of Manica has in the last few days been releasing prisoners to spend their days at home, returning to sleep in the prison at night.

Consciousness of citizens about crime grows – says Khalau
Jorge Khalau, Commander of the Police, has said that there is a growing consciousness amongst people in Zambezia that the killing, assault or destruction of property of people who are believed to have stopped the rain from falling is a crime. He said that the collaboration of some community members has been extremely important to the work of the police in preventing and educating people about the problem.
