Dear Manuel,
Tourism Intelligence International will once again present the results of
its latest research at the WTM in London in November 2008. Our Sustainable
Tourism Development - A Practical Guide for Decision-Makers" publication
will be launched at WTM this November.
You are cordially invited to our Presentation at the World Travel Market in
London on Wednesday 12th November 2008 from 14:00 - 15:00 hrs., North
Gallery, Rooms 6 & 7 to our Presentation on Sustainable Tourism Development
A Practical Guide for Decision-Makers.
As you are aware, global developments particularly the increasing
deterioration of the environment and growing threats of environmental
disasters; growing demands by increasing mature and informed consumers for
more responsible products and services; as well as key positive
actions undertaken by governments, businesses and local communities
suggest that sustainable tourism practice is not a luxury item on the travel
and tourism agenda, but a growing necessity.
At the same time, there is a growing body of knowledge and experiences
regarding the implementation and best practices for sustainable tourism.
But how can tourism be developed in a sustainable and responsible manner?
What can we learn from the experiences and pitfalls of others?
Drawing on the experiences of companies and countries around the world
those that have done it right from the beginning such as Costa Rica and the
challenges that they continue to face; those that were forced by their
circumstances to develop responsible tourism (South Africa); to
those that have destroyed and have now rescued their natural and cultural
resources such as the Aborigines in Australia and the Rhine River in Germany
this session is expected to be an eye-opener for all those interested in
growing their businesses and destinations in a sustainable manner.
This special session hosted by WTM draws on our market intelligence report
on ŒSustainable Tourism Development A Practical Guide for Decision-Makers¹
that will be launched at WTM by Tourism Intelligence International
(November 2008). This publication is a Œone-of-a kind¹ resource. Our 300+

wanting to build the travel and tourism industry in a sustainable manner.
