Renamo must respect political differences – says Guebuza
President Armando Guebuza condemned the use of violence by Renamo
against MDM, in Nacala-Porto, Nampula province. According to him, Renamo
must respect political differences as part of the democratic process.

Daviz Simango will bring charges against Dhlakama
The leader of MDM, Daviz Simango, said in Nampula that he will bring
charges against the leader of Renamo, Afonso Dhlakama, related to his
alleged ordering of the assault against him on Tuesday in Nacala-Porto.

Mozambique Elections Facing Budget Deficit

The National Elections Commission (CNE) is prepared to conduct free,
fair, and transparent general and provincial elections on 28 October,
despite a deficit of seven million US dollars in the budget granted by
the Mozambican state.
To finance the elections, the Electoral Administration Technical
Secretariat (STAE), the CNE'S executive body, had worked out a budget of
47 million dollars, but the state has only granted 40 million dollars
for the entire process (Club of Mozambique, 11th June 2009).

Parliament to resume activities on Monday
The activities of the Assembly of the Republic have been suspended this
week until a planned date of next Wednesday, 17th June due to the
scheduled Renamo Congress. The Congress has now been postponed to an
unknown date, and the Permanent Commission of the Parliament as decided
that it will restart its activities on Monday.
According to the spokesperson of the Permanent Commission, Mateus
Katupha, a further dispensation will not be given to Renamo deputies in
the future.

India invests US$15m in the area of the environment
India will invest around US$15m in environment management programmes in
Mozambique. The Mozambican Government and the Indian Institute of Energy
and Resources signed yesterday a memorandum to this effect. The Indian
investment aims to improve the country’s capacity to adapt to the
impacts of climate change, to pursue programs of reforestation and to
prevent soil degradation.

Access to jobs in Nampula
At least six thousand people were recruited from 2005 to the first
quarter of this year in Nampula province, due to the creation of large
projects in the sectors of industry, mining, civil construction and
agriculture.

Toxic products destroyed in Maputo
Toxic products used in the production of the hard drugs mandrax and
heroin are being destroyed in Beleluane, district of Boane. The products
were seized in 2006 in Maputo Port, after being abandoned by an unknown
owner. The destruction of the toxic products is being coordinated by the
Customs Service, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Interior and
the Ministry of Environment.

Demining process in Manica and Sussundenga will end in six months
The areas identified as mined in the districts of Manica and Sussundenga
in Manica province will be free of mines by next year. The demining
process were started in May. According to the Supervisor, Augusto
Massingue, the mines were planted by Government troops in order to
protect the Chicamba dam against sabotage, during the civil war.

Mozambique opens air transport
Mozambique is gradually opening its air sector for new operators. The
process began earlier this year, with the reciprocal opening of the air
sectors of countries of the southern Africa region. The liberalisation
process will end in 2010, and will include the opening of air
connections to Portugal.

People complain about border-guards
People in Niassa have accused border-guards of illicitly taking money
from miners in Goroma, district of Matchedje. The accusations were made
at a meeting held with the Governor of Niassa province, Arnaldo Bimbe.
According to the population, the guards submerge miners in wells, hit
them and take money for them. The Commander of the Police has commented
that he already knows about these acts propagated by his agents.

Crime reduced by 12,000 cases per year – says Pacheco
The Minister of Interior, Jose Pacheco, said that in the last five years
crime has decreased by twelve thousand cases per year. According to him,
the number of criminal cases decreased from 40,646 cases in 2004 to
28,480 cases in 2008 as a result of the operations of the police. He
gave this information last week in Parliament.
