BORIS JOHNSON ELEITO MAYOR DE LONDRES

Boris Johnson has been elected Mayor of London. He received 1,168,738 first and second preference votes compared with Ken Livingstone's 1,028,966.
On hearing the news, David said, “Boris deserves his remarkable victory.” You can watch David’s reaction by clicking on the video opposite.
In his victory speech, Boris paid tribute to his main opponents, Brian Paddick and Ken Livingstone, and promised to work “flat out” to repay the confidence of everyone who voted for him.
Boris’ victory follows a series of large gains in this week’s elections, which left us with our best local government showing since 1980:
- 256 seats and 12 councils were gained, including Bury, Nuneaton and Bedworth, and the Vale of Glamorgan

- We won 44 per cent of the national vote
- There were gains all across the country, from Southampton to Sunderland, Cardiff to Great Yarmouth
- We made in-roads into Labour heartlands like Rotherham and Barnsley
David said the results represented “a very big moment for us as a Party.”
But he warned against complacency, saying we still need to prove that we can make the changes people want to see in terms of schools, the NHS, crime and the other big issues.
