O Primeiro Ministro Italiano Romano Prodi acaba de perder o voto de confianca do Senado o que lhe obriga a apresentar a dar fim a sua governacao de 2o meses, apresentando a sua demissao! Das duas uma, ou teremos novas eleicoes na Italia, ou entao o Presidente indigitara aoutra figura para formar governo! Prodi perdeu a maioria parlamentar quando um pequeno partido da Democracia Crista retirou a apoio que lhe asseguravam um numero suficiente de votos para formar governo. Para mais detalhes:



ROME - Italian Premier Romano Prodi lost a Senate confidence vote Thursday, obliging him to resign and bring an end to his 20-month-old government.

Prodi was to head later Thursday night to the Presidential Quirinal Palace to hand in his resignation, aides to his office said. Early elections or asking a politician to try to form another government are among President Giorgio Napolitano's options as head of state.

The center-left government fell four votes short of the 160 needed for victory. The vote was 161 no to 156 yes with 318 voting and one abstention.

Prodi's government had been shaky from nearly the start after his election in April 2006, but it lurched toward its collapse Thursday after a small Christian Democrat party, whose votes were vital to a coalition majority in the Senate, yanked its support earlier this week in the latest squabbling among his allies.
