Simon Maxwells letter

Colleagues

There is new material on my website, including

Commentary on DFID’s bilateral, multilateral and humanitarian aid reviews. There is also a vote on whether DFID should write a new White Paper.

An assessment of the European Development Commissioner’s first year in office, also published in European Voice, and a ten-point proposal, written with Mikaela Gavas, for the next EU Financial Perspectives. You can vote on that also. Mikaela and I helped to run a workshop in Cyprus for the new EU Member States, the EU 12. We reflect on their perspective on development.

An article on climate compatible development, published in the UNIDO magazine, ‘Making it’, along with a video presentation on climate finance, to complement earlier entries. If you read Dutch, there’s an interview with me on climate issues in the Dutch magazine, IS.

Snappy videos of last year’s Kapuscinski lectures in Hungary and Malta are now available. This year, I shared a platform in Sofia with Kristalina Georgieva, the EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid – no snappy video yet, but there is a twitter feed. We both talked about risk management as a theme in EU development and humanitarian work. I’ll be in Vilnius in a few weeks’ time for another in this series.

Other items: my Davos report, including links to work we are doing with KPMG on a new capability index, and a session which I moderated on agricultural development; commentary on next year’s Earth Summit; publication of the Korean Development Institute book on the G20; and more.

I’m always glad to receive comments on the website.

With best wishes

Simon
