LETTER OF CONDOLENCES FROM PGA

Dear Senator Beauzile,

On behalf of PGA and its membership of 1,300 legislators from around the world, I am writing to you today to express my profound shock, and sympathy at this most catastrophic tragedy that has befallen your country Haiti. That it has struck, as these natural disasters often do, with no warning and with such randomness and devastation only makes a desperate situstion even more heartbreaking.
The harrowing pictures that fill our TV screens and newspapers and the relentlessly mounting list of casualties brings with them an equally mounting horror and an acute sense of despair that a disaster of such epic proportions should be visited on a country that is already confronted with more challenges than most. No man, woman or child deserves such a fate, but Haiti deserves it the least.
Please allow me, therefore, to extend our most heartfelt condolences and sympathies, through you, to all of the people of Haiti, at this time of such unspeakable tragedy. You are all foremost in our thoughts and prayers now, and I would like to assure that we will continue to pray for you and stand by you during the weeks, months, even years of difficult ecovery which undoubtedly lie ahead.
May I also inform you that I have taken steps to sponsor a motion jointly with a number of my other colleagues on the floor of the Nigerian Senate urging the government of Nigeria to mobilize resources for transmission to Haiti to support the ongoing international relief effort.
I urge all PGA members to find ways to encourage their respective parliaments to intervene and urge their government to mobilize help for Haiti.
Thank you and God Bless you all.
