Dear Manuel,
This morning, I attended the service of remembrance in St Paul's to mark the end of combat operations in Iraq. It was a moving end to a busy week - a sober reminder that while we at home have been worrying about our money, our careers and our personal problems, all this time our Armed Forces have been putting their lives on the line.
I was proud that our Party paid proper tribute to our Armed Forces in Manchester. I will never lose sight of the extraordinary sacrifices they make on our behalf.
Coming at the very end of the whole conference season, there is always that extra bit of pressure for the Party Leader's speech, but yesterday I really enjoyed setting out the things I believe and that I think are right for our country. You can watch me talking about it afterwards in the video below.
I will remember for a very long time that moment when the Party got to its feet and showed how much we want to beat poverty. It was a good conference, an honest conference, and I think we really showed that we are ready to get this country back on its feet.
But we can't relax now - we've got to work harder than ever to show we're ready to bring about real change. That doesn't start next year or when an election is called.
It starts now, today - or in my case, tomorrow. It's my birthday today. So tonight I'm going to take things easy and spend some time with Samantha and my family before things really get going next week.
