Members of Renamo vandalize electoral census post in Nacala

Two members of Renamo were arrested on Tuesday in Nacala, Nampula province. They are accused of vandalizing an electoral census post and assaulting its agents.

Cornelio Quivela leaves Renamo
Dissatisfaction is growing within the Renamo Party. On 17th June, the Member of Parliament Cornelio Quivela left Renamo due to the disorder and anarchy within the Party. Quivela joins Maria Moreno and Ismael Mussa, who also left the Party recently.

Bimbe suspected of protecting corrupt official
The Governor of Niassa, Arnaldo Bimbe, is suspected of protecting Crisalia Abel Lucas Mutuou, former Head of Human Resources in the Department of Agriculture. She is accused of stealing 463,085 Meticais which was intended to be used for the payment of pensioners of the Department. For her protection, she is working as the Head of the Permanent Provincial Secretariat.

Private Medicine goes to debate in Parliament

The Parliament will debate today the proposal for the Law of the practice of private medicine. It will also debate the proposal for the Administrative Jurisdiction Law, the proposal for the revision of the Parliament Members’ Statute, the proposal for the revision of the Parliament Law and the proposal for the revision of the Higher Education Law.

Netherlands invests €61.5m in water supply
According to the Ambassador of the Netherlands, Frans Bijvoet, his country has invested €61.5m through UNICEF and other partners to fund water supply projects. The investment is benefiting 26 districts in the provinces of Tete, Manica, Sofala, Inhambane, Gaza, Nampula and Cabo Delgado.

Hashish in Chongoene: Police could make door-to-door searches

The Police have not discounted the possibility of carrying out door-to-door searches with the aim of recovering some of the hashish discovered in Chongoene, Gaza province, which they believe could be in the hands of local people.

Human Trafficking concerns in Manica

The human trafficking and illegal emigration of children from Mozambique to South Africa are concerned in Machaze, Manica province. The problem is linked to poverty and lack of education and job opportunities in the Central region of Mozambique.

Cabo Delgado: illegal consumption of drugs is concerning
Montepuez, Cabo Delgado province, will be the principal location of events taking place to mark the World Day of the Fight against the Trafficking and Illegal Consumption of Drugs. Cabo Delgado has high rates of drug trafficking and consumption, according to the Director of Prevention and Combat of Drug Abuse, Tome Madebe. One of the main drugs produced in the province is cannabis sativa, known as soruma.
