'Labour Policies and Globalisation' (Germany),
'Labour and Development, Economic Policy, Globalisation and Labour' (South Africa),
'Social Economy and Labour' (Brazil) and
'Globalisation and Labour' (India)

These unique global programmes are jointly developed by universities and workers organisations from around the world and aim at those candidates who have experience with labour and social movements, and who are willing to assist organisations in these fields to engage more effectively in social dialogue, public debate, and policy implementation. Participants will analyse and discuss in a multidisciplinary fashion the challenges of globalisation from a labour and trade union perspective. The programmes offer a multi-cultural and multiregional environment with students and lecturers coming from developing, transition and industrialised countries.



Since the Global Labour University has been established in 2004, students coming from the following countries used the opportunity to study in one of the several Masters programmes:



Albania, Australia, Barbados, Botswana, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, China, Columbia, Denmark, Egypt, Germany, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, Kyrgyz Republic, Latvia, Malawi, Malaysia, Mexico, Moldova, Namibia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Poland, Russia, Serbia, South Africa, South Korea, Tanzania, Turkey, Uganda, Ukraine, USA, Vietnam, Zambia, Zimbabwe



The courses take place in Germany (Kassel/Berlin) at the University of Kassel and the Berlin School of Economics, in South Africa (Johannesburg) at the University of Witwatersrand (WITS) , in Brazil (Campinas, the state of São Paulo) at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) and the course in India (Mumbai) at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). Participants have also the possibility to study one term of the programme in South Africa or Brazil and one term in Germany (however, applicants should indicate this already on their application).

Women are strongly encouraged to participate. Applicants should, as a rule, not be older than 40 years old.



The Global Labour University is supported by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the Hans-Boeckler-Stiftung (HBS), the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) and the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ). A limited number of scholarships are available. The endorsement by a trade union is a requirement for a scholarship. The scholarship is conditional on a contribution of 1500 Euro from the supporting trade union or another donor.
