Barack Obama has made history by being sworn in as the first black president of the United States. Despite warning of "gathering clouds and raging storms" he also delivered a message of hope to the American people. In front of a massive global audience - not to mention up to 2 million people braving temperatures of -6C in Washington - the ceremony ushered in a new era of US politics. At Capitol Hill, Vice-President Joe Biden was sworn in ahead of Mr Obama, who then placed his hand on President Abraham Lincoln's inaugural bible and took the Oath of Office as his wife Michelle stood beside him. This was followed by the US Marine Corps band playing "Hail to the Chief" and a 21-gun salute. In his much-anticipated inaugural speech, the 47-year-old urged American individuals and businesses to take responsibility for their actions. During a triumphant ride down Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House in a heavily-armoured limousine, Obama and his wife thrilled the crowds by getting out of the car and walking part of the way on foot. From the White House, the Obamas watched the traditional inauguration parade, featuring ceremonial military regiments, citizens' groups, marching bands and floats. The 44th US President faces an economy in deepening recession and a country fighting wars on two fronts. He is due to meet military commanders on Wednesday to discuss the possibility of accelerating the US troop withdrawal from Iraq and the need for more forces in Afghanistan.

I believe this was the first time when US president's inauguration was watched by the whole world. Obama has great chance to become first (respected) world leader. But this task will not be easy...definitely...
Take care
