On issues inside Zimbabwe, the court case of Zimbabwe Peace Project Director Jestina Mukoko and other people who were abducted at different times last year continued as the political process is continuing to drag with new delays in the talks reported. Our member organisations have issued 4 statements today and yesterday:

- On the talks, ZimRights today 20/1-09 issued a newsflash in which they called on the parties to approach the talks with the seriousness they deserve and reach some form of agreement. The full attachment is attached.

- On the court case Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights continue to publish daily updates. Find the latest one covering 16 and 19 January attached.

- In a different statement ZLHR reports threats against their organisation and its employees brought by an unidentified man yesterday 19 January 2009. Find the full statement attached.

- The Legal Resources Foundation in a statement yesterday notes with deep concern the continuing flagrant disregard of court orders by state functionaries. LRF calls on call on the international community in SADC and beyond to take note that the Zimbabwean authorities no longer abide by the Constitution of the country, and to support Zimbabweans in our call for an immediate return to adherence to the democratic rights to which we are all entitled. Find the full statement attached.

The Institute for Security Studies today 20.1.09 launched “Tracking Proceeds of Crime In Uganda, Malawi and Zimbabwe”.
