The South African government has pledged to support Mozambique’s fishing industry as from next year, following a recent bilateral cooperation agreement between the two neighbours.
On overall, the agreement covers research of marine and coastal resources, exchange of scientific and technical information, simplification of monitoring procedures, control and inspection to ensure enforcement of marine and coastal legislation on both countries.
The implementation of the agreement will be monitored by a joint commission, Mozambique-South Africa Marine and Coastal Commission.
This commission will also monitor, coordinate, facilitate and assess all programs implemented under the agreement.
