Addis Ababa, 17 September 2008
The Direct Conflict Prevention Programme (DCP) of the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) – Addis Ababa Office would like to cordially invite you to a public seminar entitled: An Analysis of the Elections in Angola.
Africa is experiencing a massive effort by individual states, regional bodies and the international community collectively to establish and consolidate democratic practices through regular, free and fair elections and through an array of representative institutions. In Angola parliamentary elections were held on 5th September 2008, sixteen years after the last elections with over 8 million Angolans registered to cast their vote and choose their representatives. This seminar will review the conduct of the parliamentary elections in Angola and seek to analyse the key issues addressed during the elections and the prospects for the consolidation of democratic governance in the country.
Ms Paula Roque, Researcher at the ISS will be presenting a situation on the Parliamentary Elections in Angola.
The DCP strives to complement and support the work of the African Union (AU) particularly on issues of Peace and Security. The ISS Public Seminar Series is part of the DCP effort at consensus building by providing a platform for sharing information, encouraging policy debates and dialogues on the African Peace and Security Agenda. The aim is to stimulate quality discussion in-depth and constructive interaction between participants. To allow for construction interaction, presentations will be introductory remarks aimed at stimulating unconstrained discussion.
