CALL FOR Ph.D. PROPOSALS
The Development Research Institute (IVO) of Tilburg University is looking for female Ph.D. candidates from African countries, who would be interested in applying for a Dutch fellowship to follow a doctoral program in topics related to ecological economics (Ph.D. in economics) . The subjects that are priority for our Ph.D. program are the following:
• Market-based and innovative mechanisms for improving environmental stewardship, such as payments for environmental services
• Innovative uses of local (agro)biodiversity for trade purposes (biotrade)
• Assessment of local development effects of certification schemes applied to global value chains, including environmental concerns
• Integrated impact assessment of exports of natural resources to China in African countries
• Forest resources and value chains
• Economic and institutional issues of water supply and sanitation in poor urban areas
• Analysis of the long-term development implications of trade specialization in the primary sector
Interested candidates should provide a C.V. and a proposal (max 4 pages) in order to apply for acceptance at the Development Research Institute of Tilburg University. To hold a master degree and a good academic record are requisites. Once accepted in the PhD program, the candidates must later apply to the Netherland Fellowship Program of the Dutch Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education (Nuffic). The next deadline for applying to the fellowship is the 1st October 2008. This implies that the candidates should apply the first weeks of September 2008 to IVO, in order to obtain the acceptance letter on time. Application to the fellowship must be done through the Dutch Embassies in the countries of origin.
