1.1. In Chimoio city: 150 officers without work contract
More than 150 of the 400 officers of Chimoio Municipality do not have work contracts. The information was given by the Mayor, Raul Conde Marques Adriano, who recognizes that the problem is very serious and there is an urgent need to resolve it. 1.2. Guebuza visits City of Maputo today

1.3. Frelimo elects its Secretary in Beira
Frelimo in Beira will today elect its First Secretary. The new Secretary will replace Jo Capece who resigned from the position allegedly due to its incompatibility with his lecturing activities. Names have not been officially given, but it is known that potential candidates are Manuel Gumançaze, Josefo Nguenha and Manuel Magaço. 1.4.The absence of political leaders impoverishes Parliament
According to Mozambican civil society leaders interviewed for a study published in Maputo on Tuesday, the absence of the country’s principal political leaders – Armando Guebuza of Frelimo and Afonso Dhlakama of Renamo - impoverishes Parliament. The importance of political leaders in the Parliament was emphasized in the research “The profile of the Parliament and the Mozambican Deputy: From enemies to political adversaries”, by the Portuguese academic Elisabete Azevedo. 2. ECONOMICS AND DEVELOPMENT
2.1. Work on Ilha de Mozambique bridge enters last phase
The rehabilitation works on the access bridge for the Ilha de Mozambique have entered the 3rd and final phase which will last for 24 months. It will include reconstruction work on the island’s piers, which were previously used for the mooring of transports and fishing boats. The budget, made available by the government and cooperation partners is 329 million Meticais. 2.2.World Bank helps Mozambique face global crisis
The World Bank has given US$100m to finance a part of their energy projects in the scope of measures to address the effect of the global crisis. The Mozambican Government has also obtained a formal promise from Norway that it will contribute US$45m for the construction of an energy transmission line from the center to the south of the country. 2.3. Ministry of Health (MISAU) takes a position on the case of the American doctors

3. HUMAN RIGHTS, JUSTICE AND LEGAL AFFAIRS
3.1. Bad nutrition kills prisoners
Fifteen prisoners died in the Industrial Penitenciary of Nampula, in the first 3 months of this year because of a lacki of food. The prisoners were given only one small meal per day. This was due to a delay in the allocation of funds to the prison for this year. (Wampula Fax. 27th May, 2009)
3.2. Human Right Leaders will not be named by the President
The Parliament has decided that the President and Vice-President of the National Human Rights Commission will now not be named by the President of the Republic. The amendment of the Law was made by the Constitutional Council and was then passed to Parliament for re-examination.(TVM. 28th May, 2009)
3.3. Mozambique human trafficking corridor
According to the Ministry of Women and Social Action, Mozambique is being used as a regional corridor for the trafficking of humans, particularly women and children, for economic ends, sexual exploitation and as a source of cheap labor. (Canal de Moçambique. 28th May, 2009)
