CC rejects party protests and backs CNE

The Constitutional Council (CC) yesterday rejected all complaints from parties about the exclusion of their candidates lists by the National Elections Commission (CNE). In particular, with respect to the protest from the MDM, it backed the CNE interpretation of the election law -- that once a list of candidates has been submitted it cannot be added to, and thus if candidates are dropped because they did not submit all their documents, they cannot be replaced by new candidates. That means if a list becomes too short, it is dropped completely, as happened to the MDM in several provinces.

The full decisions have not yet been published, and we will give a more detailed report when those decisions are available.
